PBC SAFER @  STRATEGY

The PBC Safer@ Strategy can be adapted for many settings, in this case Safer @ School is for schools/ colleges and equips volunteers to deliver a Protective Behaviours six session programme with individual pupils or small groups enabling children/students to feel safer.

Through the Safer@Schools Programme PBC recruit, match, train and support volunteers to add capacity to schools for the delivery of Protective Behaviours.

The vision is to ensure schools have the capacity through the volunteers scheme to provide as many children and young people as possible with access to Protective Behaviours and learn about strategies for keeping themselves feeling safe.

Each volunteer will:

  • Have the opportunity to attend a PBC Protective Behaviours Foundation Level Course which will provide training to deliver the six session programme for children/ students
  • Will receive a Protective Behaviours manual and resource pack for the delivery of the sessions
  • Be able to provide sessions to children in their school/college
  • Receive ongoing support and CPD from PBC
  • Be included in volunteer network meetings

Schools can choose their own volunteer of PBC will match a local volunteer with the school/college. The volunteer will be committed to providing an agreed number of sessions to increase capacity for carrying out one to one or small group work. They will provide Protective Behaviours sessions with all children, particularly those the school identifies as being most vulnerable or at risk.

SAFER, STRONGER ME
REFERRAL SERVICE

Picture
What is ‘Safer Stronger Me’?
‘Safer Stronger Me’ is a referral Service ran by Protective Behaviours Consortium. Organisation’s refer individuals for a one to one course or a group course. This work is all underpinned by the Protective Behaviours process. Some of the courses focus more on confidence building or wellbeing and some are focused more towards children/ young people or parents.
What is the Protective Behaviours Process?
The Protective Behaviours Process is defined by the acceptance that ‘the right to feel safe’ is a human right. Even without acceptance, every person wants to feel safe for most of their lives. Given the choice, most people want to feel safe from harm and enjoy life. Feeling safe is an individual concept, with each person recognising what feels safe for them. Equally, feeling unsafe is individual, with each person recognising their intuitive feelings in response to any situation. The Protective Behaviours Process encourages people to think about these intuitive feelings, particularly being aware of those physical feelings which might indicate they are feeling unsafe, and to enable them to make decisions based on available choices.  They then can choose their behaviours or do something that might be protective for
themselves or to help someone else.

Why have I been referred?
The Organisation that has referred you will have explained their reasons for thinking you may benefit from taking part in one of the Safer Stronger Me Courses. In some circumstances this could put you at risk of harm and this consent would not be sought. Please tell the organisation that is referring you if you feel this may apply to you.

The Protective Behaviours process has broadened out over the past 40 years and is used in many different countries by a variety of Organisations to work with people to in a range of different areas. These include:

• Anti- Bullying • Assertiveness training • Challenging behaviours • Conflict resolution • Counselling • Crime prevention • Strategies for disabled people • Self Esteem building
